If reports out of both England and Spain are to be believed then Spanish giants Real Madrid are intending to beat both Manchester United and Chelsea to the surprise signing of Everton youngster Jack Rodwell. Rodwell, who has been highly impressive playing in central midfield for Everton this season, has reportedly been watched at least five times by Real Madrid scouts who have reported back to coach Manuel Pellegrini with glowing reports. Real are believed to want to secure a move for Rodwell as soon as possible but whereby Rodwell would arrive in the Spanish capital in the summer.
The rumour first broke in British tabloid The People and has been picked up by various sources since. The most notable though is that of Madrid based daily paper AS who have posted the story on their website, improving the validity of the rumour as they are said to be strongly linked with Real Madrid themselves. AS’s information on Rodwell is sketchy at best but they have quoted David Moyes as calling Rodwell “the most promising defender in England”.
And that’s what Real are said to be interested in – a central defender capable of playing the ball forward in a similar vein to Rio Ferdinand. Real’s previous Galacticos period was noted for having little emphasis put on signing defenders but chairman Florentino Perez already splashed out on Spain defender Raul Albiol in the summer and is willing to splash out the £14 million asking price that Everton have set on the youngster.
Whether Rodwell would be interested in a move to Spain at such a tender age is yet to be seen but Everton would surely be happier to sell the youngster off to Spain than to a Premiership rival in Chelsea or United and Real’s interest could prove the dream solution for the club.
