Like Christmas it comes around every year. That is the rumour that Real Madrid want to sign Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and this time reports suggest they are willing to offer up to £56 million to secure his talents.
Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson tells punters that Spanish daily Marca is reporting that Madrid have put away a mammoth €70 million (£56 million) in order to land the Welsh international after making him a main transfer target.
The flying winger is once again in fine form at White Hart Lane, netting five goals in his last nine games as Andre Villas-Boas’ side mount a serious challenge for Champions League qualification.
Jose Mourinho is known to appreciate the brilliance of Bale after he made the successful transition from left back to fully fledged winger and had revealed an interest in signing him 18 months ago.
Sanderson reports that the partnership set up between Madrid and Spurs last year is likely to come into play for any deal as Mourinho looks to sign the 23-year-old in the next few seasons.
Tottenham would clearly be gutted to lose their most talented player in the near future but the money on offer would be hard to resist for any top Premier League side.
