Tottenham Hotspur got off to the perfect start yesterday as they secured a 2-1 victory away at Newcastle United on the opening day of their Premier League season.
Spurs failed to bring in any players over the course of the summer transfer window, but this didn’t matter on the opening day as they overcame the challenges of Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Although, it looks as if one of Mauricio Pochettino’s star men is attracting interest, as according to Sun Sport, Real Madrid want Christian Eriksen to replace Luka Modric if he leaves for Inter Milan.
Christian Eriksen is locked in Tottenham contract talks, but he has now been targeted by Real Madrid.
The Dane is the Spanish side’s No 1 choice to replace Luka Modric if he departs this summer, as he continues to be chased by Inter Milan.
The 26-year-old has two years left on his deal and Spurs are desperately trying to tie him down for longer.
But there has been no agreement, leaving the door open for Real.
So, it looks as if Tottenham will have to work hard to keep one of their standout performers in North London, as Real Madrid look to steal him away from them. Indeed, the Dane’s contract talks drag on as no agreement has been reached, which means that a move away could be in the offing if they don’t resolve the situation quickly.
The attacking midfielder has established himself as one of the world’s best in recent years and is a vital part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans. So, the London club will need to do everything they can to keep hold of him.
