Our Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Daniel Levy will back Mauricio Pochettino to the hilt, after he has rejected one of the biggest jobs in the world to concentrate on his long-term plans in Spurs’ new stadium this summer.
Pochettino had been linked with the Los Blancos job following the quick resignation of Zinedine Zidane, with Madrid looking to make a quick appointment.
However, while he would have been sorely missed at Spurs, our regulars think that Mauricio Pochettino should now be given the money to go a strengthen the squad this summer. Indeed, it’s something that he has alluded to in interviews in the last few months.
Recently, Spurs found themselves finishing third behind the two Manchester clubs, thanks to Chelsea’s poor form and decline since the turn of the year and their constant progression looks to be continuing. Still, if they harbour any ambition to kick on next season, then Chairman Levy must reward the Argentine’s loyalty to the club by bringing some players in that are high on the priority list in the summer.
With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO potential stars to be brought in to the new stadium next season…
OUR VERDICT – Nabil Fekir & Wilfried Zaha
Nabil Fekir has had one of his best ever seasons in Europe last season. He was banging in goals left, right and centre and helped Lyon in Ligue 1 to a third place finish. Indeed, his range of passing and direct dribbling ability would surely mix things up at Spurs and he could be the player to sit just behind Harry Kane whilst feeding him with assists, much like he has done for Lyon the majority of last season.
With Tottenham often struggling to break teams down with pace and directness, he could be the man to unlock a defence, much like this next fellow…
The Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, has been in sparkling form of late and is one of the main reasons behind Palace’s Premier League resurgence and ultimate survival.
Although he never quite make the grade at Old Trafford during his time there, the decision to opt for a return back to The Eagles seems to be paying off bigtime at the moment.
Following a string of outstanding performances in the Premier League, the Ivory Coast international has looked back to the majestic talent that had earnt him a move to United in the first place. A move to Spurs would see Zaha make the step up in levels once again and many in the br think this time he’d be better equipped to fully take his chance
