Arsenal fans do not exactly look impressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern after it was claimed by the Daily Star that one of their transfer targets actually wanted a move to the club – but they missed out nonetheless.
As one of our punters note, the Gunners had made bids for Yohan Cabaye that were turned down by Newcastle United and now it seems that they should have pushed that little bit harder.
The former Magpie eventually ended up in France at Paris Saint-Germain in January after the mega-rich club made advances towards him, and one of our punters notes that the move may not have been his first choice.
The former Lille star was asked about Arsene Wenger and claimed: “I had wanted to play under Arsene Wenger last summer but unfortunately that was not the case.”
He did however make it clear that he was happy in the French capital and stated his intention to remain there, claiming: “Zlatan Ibrahimovic doing extraordinary things and Thiago Silva is a monster in the back.
“It is a new challenge. I want to stay here and win it. It is my destiny.”
Arsenal fans. Are you gutted that Wenger didn’t whip out the chequebook to land Cabaye when he had the chance or would Alan Pardew have never sold him to the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
