Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Premier League with an emphatic 5-1 thumping of Stoke City at Wembley on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men had won just one of their preceding six league games prior to the Potters’ visit to the national stadium at the weekend, but they produced a wonderful display to sweep aside Mark Hughes’ team. A brace from Harry Kane, as well as goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen, alongside an own goal from Ryan Shawcross, sealed a comprehensive victory for Spurs, although it wasn’t enough to see them leapfrog rivals Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League after they grabbed a point from their trip to Southampton.
Subsequently, there have been several thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent days, many of whom are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which suggests that Pochettino’s side have joined the heavyweight race for ‘record-breaking’ Hamburg starlet Jann-Fiete Arp.
The 17-year-old has come up through the ranks at the Bundesliga outfit to make his senior debut for the club back in September of this year, coming on as a late substitute in their 0-0 draw with Werder Bremen.
Yet the forward has since gone from strength to strength with two goals in seven further appearances for Hamburg, to the point that the Germany Under-17 international has started their last six matches at the lone striker.
And his fine efforts in his homeland have reportedly attracted the interest of several Premier League giants, namely Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, and now recent reports suggest that Pochettino’s Tottenham have joined the race for the 17-year-old.
And given his exploits for Hamburg in the last few months or so, Arp could well have a huge future in the game, potential which could be fulfilled in England.
Landlord’s verdict: Jann-Fiete Arp was a complete unknown only a matter of months ago, yet now he is hitting the headlines in Germany for many impressive displays for Bundesliga side Hamburg.
The 17-year-old has bagged two goals in eight league appearances for the top-flight club and has started their last six matches as the lone striker, in turn becoming the first player born in the 2000s to play and indeed score in Germany’s top-flight.
And those ‘record-breaking’ efforts have reportedly attracted the interest of several Premier League heavyweights, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, and now Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham have joined the chase.
And given the Argentine’s recent record with developing young talent, Arp could well desire a move to Spurs over the aforementioned trio in the coming transfer windows.
