Redknapp’s Ready: Hughes’ Days Are Numbered At Loftus Road

Mark Hughes is leading the race to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job, with Harry Redknapp favourite to replace the QPR boss at Loftus Road.

Bet Victor have the former Spurs boss priced at 15/8 to replace Hughes who has joined Nigel Adkins as the 4/1 favourite to be the first managerial casualty in the Premier League this season.

QPR have endured a torrid start to the season and find themselves bottom of the Premier League with no wins from their opening six games. The disappointing start has been compounded by the fact that Hughes has spent in the region of £25 million on new players since his arrival in January.

No fewer than 10 new players were brought in during the summer transfer window with the capture of players like Esteban Granero and the big club experience of Jose Bosingwa and Ji-Sung Park a signal of Rangers and Hughes’ intent. But so far results have failed to match the the highly ambitious Welshman’s expectations.

Similarly, Chairman Tony Fernandes is unlikely to be encouraged by recent performances. His investment indicates he too has big ambitions for QPR and you suspect Hughes will need to turn things round if he is to hang around at Loftus Road for long.

Fernandes will no doubt see Redknapp as an ideal replacement if he brings the current manager’s reign to an end. He turned Spurs fortunes around and should he receive the same financial backing as Hughes then he will be confident he can improve the situation with QPR. Equally, the chance to remain in London and his Sandbanks home will no doubt appeal to ‘Arry as will the chance to spend money.

However, while QPR’s start to the season has been disappointing it is early days and given the players at Hughes’ disposal he is well capable of turning around their fortunes. He is under pressure but you would expect Fernandes to give him more time and that may be what’s needed. If not, well then Harry could well return to management.
