Reds plan rebuild despite recording loss

Anfield.jpgThere is good news for Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern after Metro claim that despite posting a loss of £40.5 million the Reds are still willing to spend big this summer.

The club may have made the massive loss and a £21.8 million increase in their debts but managing director Ian Ayre has remained defiant in the wake of the figures. When asked by the Liverpool Echo he noted that: “It’s definitely not something I believe anyone should be worried or concerned about. It is seasonal – our debt goes up and down.”

In a further move to reassure fans he also added that “We need to continue to improve our squad and what a lot of people won’t relate to perhaps is that when you are improving your squad and making that investment, you have knock-on costs that will create debt in the short term.

“But hopefully in the long term we’ll improve our position and we are very aware of that.We  will continue to invest in the squad – I think that is what our fans would expect..But the most important thing is that we do it prudently and in a sustainable way that is affordable.”

Of course the club are worried about losing Luis Suarez in the summer and need a couple of players in order to get back up the Premier League standings. The Reds will also have to face up to the proposition of having to replace Jamie Carragher who recently announced that he would be retiring at the end of the current regular season.

Liverpool fans. Does this news excite you and what players do you need in the summer, excluding Messi and Ronaldo!? Let us know your thoughts below.
