Metro have a claim that Liverpool fans have become rather interested in here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they have claimed that Pepe Reina has no future at Liverpool.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been on loan in Serie A at Napoli this term and now it seems that his future will not be at Anfield.
As one of our punters notes, Reina had basically admitted that he did not think manager Brendan Rodgers would take him back at the club and now it seems that the manager has gone even further.
Rodgers claimed: “He’s already written his letter, hasn’t he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn’t he?
“I was surprised at the letter – when you are a loan player I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move.
“He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with [Rafael Benitez] and thanked him for his time for Liverpool.
“So, for me, it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”
As one of our punters noted, those comments seem a little catty to say the least, and given the form of Reina – not to mention his amazing save against Swansea City in last night’s Europa League fixture, we think that Rodgers may have been a little bit harsh.
Is there quite simply no way back for Reina at Anfield? Let us know your thoughts below.
