Reina not headed to Spain

reina.jpgHere at the Football Transfer Tavern we are intrigued by a report in the Daily Mail who claim that Pepe Reina will not return to Spain – but he knows someone who may.

The Liverpool goalkeeper has been shall we say struggling to recapture the form that made him one of the best in the world yet has still been linked to Barcelona. Of course the Catalan giants are in the hunt for their new number one after Victor Valdes claimed that he will not be renewing his deal when it expires in 2014. All of this – not to mention some well timed comments from Reina senior had led to speculation that he could be about to return to the Camp Nou.

However this won’t happen according to the keeper himself who noted to radio Marca that: “Any talk of me joining Barca is just speculation. I’ve got a contract at Liverpool and I’m very happy here. I am sure Victor Valdes with have his reasons for deciding to leave Barcelona. I respect him. He’s my teammate and friend. He’ll be leaving with his head held high, as he’s given his all to Barcelona.”

The Reds stopper also gave his support to Gareth Bale when asked about the winger’s possible move to Real Madrid, claiming that: “If Real Madrid signs Bale I’ll be delighted. He causes me a lot of problems.”

Of course Bale is a hot topic in Spain and given his recent form it is no shocker.

Will Reina keep his word and stay at Liverpool? Rate this rumour below.
