Everton insisted the young England international would be staying put, rejecting numerous bids, whilst also denying Stones’ transfer request.
As well as keeping Stones, the statement of intent by Everton had another positive as James McCarthy has stated that keeping his team-mate at Goodison Park was a big reason why he penned a new deal with the Merseyside outfit.
Quoted by The Daily Mirror, McCarthy confirmed the stance on Stones ultimately played a big part in his decision not to pursue a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
“The manager, the chairman, the whole club made a big statement in the summer by keeping everyone together. And this could be a really big season for us.”
With new faces coming in and the top-stars remaining put, Everton are hopeful of sealing a spot alongside the European sides and will also want a decent running in the domestic cups.
