The Sportsman looks at the greater the importance of a football match can mean the more likelihood of bookings owing to the ties competitiveness. For example a match between one of the top four sides in the league or a tussle between two sides attempting to stave off relegation generally gives rise to the bookings count.
With such a tight Premier League this season I’ve taken a look at the five teams leading the relegation betting market to see if their bookings count has climbed over their last six matches as the prospect of going down a division looms large.
Blackpool (1-3 for relegation):- 12 bookings points per match in the Premier League this season. This is a low count and testament to the way Ian Holloway sets his team up. Any bookings market I have looked at for the Lancashire side has always been in search of low counts but the layers are wise to this. Over the last six matches as potential relegation looms into focus their bookings count has climbed to 16 points per match but I can’t see buying high being a successful venture with a team who may be naïve but certainly aren’t cynical.
West Ham Utd (4-9 for relegation):- 17 bookings points per match for the season and in the last six matches only 8 bookings points per match. This suggests the “Hammers” fight to stay up hasn’t manifested in overtly physical displays.
Wigan Athletic (5-6 for relegation):- 20 bookings pts per match for the season. Last six matches 17 bookings points per match so nothing conclusive.
Wolves (10-11 for relegation):- 17 bookings pts per match this term. Last six matches 12 points per match. At first glance nothing amiss then. Though upon closer inspection, Wolves’ last two matches away from home have picked up 30 bookings points consecutively. They could be worth buying high in the bookings markets in their remaining Premier League matches as the tension mounts.
Blackburn (7-4 for relegation):- averaging 21 bookings points per match this season. Last six matches, 36 bookings points per match. Four of Blackburn’s last six matches have been away from home and Rovers have averaged 46 points – 46 points for one single side is massive. That’s usually enough to beat the average match line alone. Get high on bookings for the rest of the season with Blackburn away from home as long as they remain in a relegation struggle.
