Relegation fears are real for Newcastle fans after another home defeat

Newcastle United did what they’ve done against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City yesterday when they lost 2-1 against one of the big six. Rafa Benitez has struggled over the last few months with the ongoing off-field issues surrounding Mike Ashley over the summer leaving them with a hangover as they entered the season.

Things aren’t all bad for the Magpies. They’re currently 18th with just one point on the board but they’ve faced four of last season’s top six within their opener five matches. Losing 2-1 against the top sides isn’t horrendous and Benitez has done well to ensure that the losses haven’t had too big of an impact on their goal difference. The fans, though, are starting to fear that the season could end with the club’s third relegation from the Premier League.

Both times that the club have been relegated previously they’ve bounced straight back to the top flight as champions the following season, but with the issues going on around the club, a lot of fans are starting to believe that there could be dark days ahead for what is a fine football club filled with history. The supporters were left to watch dross yesterday as Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal a 2-0 lead and a late consolation goal from Ciaran Clark wasn’t enough to improve the mood amongst the Geordies.

Being a Magpie is tough at the moment and they’ll be hoping for a quick change in fortunes before they get really stuck in the relegation zone.
