It’s been a tough start to the season for Newcastle United as the Magpies have picked up just one point in their opening three Premier League matches.
Under a summer of criminal underspending on a squad that somehow finished 10th, Rafa Benitez’s chances of getting the team to replicate that finish look pretty slim.
The Magpies lost Mitrovic in the summer and replaced him with Salomon Rondon while also signing Yoshinori Muto, and that sums up the strategy of Mike Ashley throughout the summer: plugging holes rather than building on the squad.
Elsewhere Newcastle signed Schar and Fernandez to provide depth at the back following the injury to Florian Lejeune.
The club were dealt another blow recently as Newcastle’s club captain and fan favourite, Jamaal Lascelles picked up an ankle injury before their games against Chelsea at the weekend.
Reliable Newcastle journalist, Lee Ryder offered an update on the defender, who if injured for a long time, could be a huge blow for the club.
While it’s unsure how serious the injury is, if Lascelles is out for a prolonged period of time Newcastle United could be in trouble.
Not only is he one of the better defenders in the league but he also an essential leader for Benitez. While Schar and Fernandez can do a job in defence for the Magpies for the time being, after such a poor start to the league and following a poor summer, Newcastle need their talisman back as quick as possible.
Newcastle fans, are you worried?
