Reliable Journalist: This Arsenal star is running out of time to turn his form around

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very disappointed with the form of Mesut Ozil this season…

One of the most inconsistent players in the Premier League, on his day Mesut Ozil is one of Europe’s best players, but unfortunately for Arsenal – his day simply does not come often enough.

Games can so often pass him by and that has left Arsenal to struggle in the Premier League, with a mixed bag of results coming their way in recent weeks.

Mesut Ozil has been a really divisive figure this season, and amidst reports that he is looking for a bumper new contract – the Chief football writer for the Independent, Miguel Delaney, has had his say on the matter.

Speaking about Ozil, he said: “The midfielder’s poor run of form and apparent insouciance is generating rumblings within the Arsenal set-up. With pressure mounting for him to be dropped, it’s time Ozil proved a point”.

Issuing a rallying cry to Ozil, he finished: “There is now doubt as to when he can get back to justifying the wages demanded. He needs to demand more of himself on the pitch, and make the most meaningful statement he possibly can in Munich”.

The piece is a very well written discussion on the topic, but those specific quotes certainly add a lot of insight into the Mesut Ozil debate.

There can’t be any doubt that Ozil has underperformed this season, and the fact that he wants a new deal is very important. It is time for the German to step up and earn his stripes – and the Bayern Munich game is a good place to start.

Ozil has performed badly statistically, too, with just 5 goals and 4 assists so far in this campaign.

If he is able to lead Arsenal to a famous victory against Bayern Munich, though, the German’s poor form will be entirely forgiven. After all, a decent Champions League run could turn Arsenal’s season around.
