Tottenham Hotspur's transfer window has unfolded in familiar fashion this summer with no new signings to report as of yet and, with supporters beginning to become frustrated, there's more bad news coming out of the club in the past 24 hours.

According to a report from Football.London, teenage sensation Reo Griffths has cancelled his contract with Tottenham Hotspur and has left the club, with a transfer to Lyon potentially in the offing.

Following Griffiths' mesmerising campaign at youth level in which he bagged an eye-catching 27 goals from just 20 appearances in the U18 Premier League, the Tottenham supporters were beginning to question his potential to move into the senior squad next season.

With Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen both heavily linked with transfers away form the club and presumably surplus to requirements, Griffiths was viewed as the organic answer to Tottenham's backup striker conundrum, but the recent report suggests Mauricio Pochettino will have to delve into the transfer market to bring a new striker to the club.

It's impossible to know what is truly going on behind the scenes at Spurs, but what is clear is that they have made an almighty mistake in failing to convince Griffiths to remain in North London.

During a window when Tottenham have huffed, puffed and threatened to complete a handful of high-calibre acquisitions, the latest news is simply a disaster as Griffiths has certainly demonstrated a level of potential which suggests he could blossom into a future star in European football.

It may be too soon for Griffiths to step into the first-team on a regular basis, but it's certainly not too soon for Daniel Levy to offer him a lucrative senior contract to prove he the club are committed to his development.

If the recent report does indeed prove to be true, there's no doubt that Tottenham's poor transfer window has just gone from bad to worse.
