Arsenal fans here in the Tavern will be desperate for their side to get back among Europe’s elite after struggling to compete in recent years.
The Gunners failed to secure Champions League football last season as Arsene Wenger couldn’t give supporters what they wanted before his departure. Although, Unai Emery has already made moves on the transfer front and looks to be lining up another, as according to Marca, Arsenal are interested in Porto midfielder Miguel Layun.
The Mexican international spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla from Portuguese side Porto, a deal which included the option to make the move permanent. However, Sevilla have decided not to take up that option.
Sevilla had two deadlines to make the deal happen; 30 May for £3.5 million and 30 June for £5.3 million, with the latter passing with no further developments on Saturday.
So, with Arsenal interested in signing Miguel Layun this summer, he could be available for as little as £5 million.
It looks as if Arsenal are eyeing up a bargain deal for one of the most exciting players at the World Cup. The 30-year-old has been a standout performer for Mexico in Russia thus far, so the Gunners will be desperate to push through a deal for the full-back.
