Arsenal fans here in the Tavern will be hoping for success in the Europa League in the next campaign, as that might be their only way of securing Champions League football if they finish outside of the top-four once again next season.
Indeed, the Gunners looked less than convincing this season as they struggled to ensure consistency. Although, it looks as if they’re closing in on their first summer signing, as according to the Independent, Arsenal are in advanced negotiations to bring Sokratis Papastathopoulos to the Emirates.
Interestingly, Arsenal are close to making Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos their first summer signing.
Recruitment chief Sven Mislintat knows the 29-year-old defender from his own time at Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal are now in advanced negotiations to bring him to the Emirates.
The Gunners initially offered roughly £13 million but they are expected to meet Dortmund’s asking price of £16 million to complete the deal this week.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has established himself as an international star over in Greece, as he has 79 caps to his name, having represented them at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. So, the Gunners will be delighted that they are in advanced talks with the club, as it looks as if they’ll receive his services for a small price.
