Report: Chelsea turn to 48-year-old in hunt for new manager

Chelsea fans here in the Tavern will be desperate for their side to secure a Champions League place in the next campaign after failing to ensure consistency over the last season.

The Blues will be gutted that they missed out on securing a Champions League place ahead of next year, as they couldn’t find a way past Newcastle United on the final day of the Premier League campaign.

The good news for the club, though, is that it looks as if they’re edging closer to appointing a new manager, as according to Sport, a deal for Luis Enrique is now back on and he could be appointed within the coming days.

Interestingly, it’s reported that Luis Enrique is being considered as Chelsea look to replace Antonio Conte.

The former Barcelona boss had emerged as the early favourite for the role when it was first suggested Antonio Conte would be leaving earlier in the season. But, negotiations went cold and Laurent Blanc and Maurizio Sarri emerged as the new frontrunners.

However, it now looks as though Enrique is in Chelsea’s crosshairs, and it’s claimed that he fits the bill perfectly as a young coach, who can get the best out his squad, with an exciting, attacking style.

Landlord’s Verdict:

So, it looks as if Chelsea have changed their focus in pursuit of a new managerial appointment, and the former Barcelona boss is arguably one of the world’s best managers.

If the Spaniard ends up making the move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will be one of the favourites to secure the Premier League title.

That said, bringing him in won’t be easy – and so the Blues will have to play this well. They’re quickly running out of options.
