Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side pick up three important victories prior to the international break to set them up perfectly for the rest of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men comfortably dispatched Huddersfield Town 3-0 at Anfield before sweeping aside Maribor by the same scoreline in the Champions League a few days later, thus giving them plenty of confidence ahead of their trip to West Ham. And they made it three wins in the space of seven days as a brace from in-form Mohamed Salah as well as strikes from Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sealed a 4-1 success for Klopp’s side, which in turn moved them above Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League table.
Consequently, there have been many happy Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they may be even more encouraged by a recent report from L’Equipe (via talkSPORT), which details some intriguing information regarding the future of reported Liverpool target Javier Pastore.
The 28-year-old currently plays his trade at French giants Paris Saint-Germain and has done so since 2011, in which time the midfielder has earned 240 appearances and helped the club win four Ligue 1 titles, as well as a whole of other domestic honours.
However, the Argentina international has featured just six times in the league for the European heavyweights so far this season and only once in the Champions League, and as such he could be on the lookout for a new club in January in a bid for regular gametime.
Klopp’s Liverpool, as well as Chelsea and Inter Milan, are reportedly interested in Pastore, and recent reports suggest that it will cost them £18 million to convince PSG into parting with the midfielder.
And although that is not a substantial sum of money in today’s world, it very much remains to be seen whether the Reds can usurp the reported frontrunners Inter to land the 28-year-old in the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: Javier Pastore had been a regular for Paris Saint-Germain since joining the club back in 2011, but has found gametime hard to come by under Unai Emery this term.
And with just six Ligue 1 appearances to his name, the 28-year-old could well be on his way out of the Parc des Princes, and now suitors such as Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool know how much it’ll cost them to land the midfielder, namely £18 million.
And, in today’s footballing terms, that’s not a huge amount of money, but with Inter reportedly leading the chase for Pastore, it may take even more from the Reds to convince the Argentina international of a move to the Premier League.
