Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern were mightily relieved on Saturday night after seeing their side nick a late 1-1 draw away at League Two side Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Rodney Parade.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the South Wales outfit huge favourites to make their Premier League quality count and thus advance to the last 16 of the world’s oldest club competition, but they just about remained in the competition after a hard-fought encounter. Padraig Armond had given Mike Flynn’s side the lead seven minutes before half time and it took until the 82nd minute for a strong Spurs team to level, with Harry Kane tapping home from a corner to spare the visitors’ blushes, and secure a replay against the fourth tier side at Wembley in a weeks’ time.
Thus, there have been many relieved Spurs fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from Tuttosport (via Calcio Mercato), which discloses the price Tottenham want for Christian Eriksen this summer amid reported interest from Juventus.
The 25-year-old made the move to the North London outfit back in 2013 and has since gone on to play 207 games for Spurs, in which time he has scored 49 goals and laid on 64 assists.
And with seven goals and eight assists of which coming this term, the Denmark international continues to have a huge influence on this Tottenham team, and that is seemingly reflected in the reported price-tag Spurs have slapped on the midfielder, namely €60 million.
And with Juventus thought to be keeping tabs on Eriksen ahead of the summer, it very much remains to be seen whether that is a high enough figure to put the Serie A champions off.
Landlord’s verdict: Christian Eriksen has been a hugely influential part of Tottenham’s success in the last few years, to the point that some of our resident Spurs fans regard him as a more integral member of the team than striker Harry Kane.
Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old’s excellent exploits for Mauricio Pochettino’s side has attracted the attention of Juventus, who are reportedly on the lookout for midfield reinforcements this summer.
And they now know that it will reportedly cost them at least €60 million to land the Denmark international come the end of the season, but only time will tell whether that is a high enough figure to fend off the Serie A champions.
