Report: Emery in advanced talks with talented enforcer about deal

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted with what Unai Emery has been able to achieve since his arrival and will hope it continues through the summer.

The new Gunners boss has been active in the transfer window this summer bolstering the club’s defence, an area where all the locals had felt needed urgent attention, as he looks to try and get them back into the Champions League.

Emery has also been keen to keep a number of his players at the Emirates Stadium this summer, and according to reports by Sky Sports, he may have been able to convince one of his younger players to remain in north London.

Sky Sports are claiming that Calum Chambers is in advanced talks to sign a new contract, despite having signed an extension last year. The move would suggest that the 23-year-old is highly rated by the new manager and with the likes of Laurent Koscielny out injured, the England international may be called upon in the early stages of the Premier League season.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Arsenal fans in the Tavern will be delighted that they have managed to get another one of their young defenders to agree to a new deal to remain at the Emirates. The Gunners have struggled in defence, however, Chambers has shown he can be a reliable man at the back when the going gets tough and will hope he can continue to perform to a high standard for Emery’s new-look side.
