Report: Everton make contact with Barcelona over World Cup star

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be concerned that the club has not made any signings so far this summer and will hope that changes soon.

Marco Silva and Marcel Brands were brought to the club to help rebuild the Toffees into a team capable of challenging for European football, following their disastrous year last season. The Goodison Park outfit found themselves at the wrong end of the Premier League table for much of the campaign and the locals will not want to see a repeat of that.

The club are keen to offload a number of players this summer, as they have a huge squad, and have already seen Wayne Rooney depart to the MLS, whilst Leighton Baines could also join him.

However, according to a report by the Liverpool Echo, the club are still interested in strengthening their defence and are thought to be in contact with Barcelona about the possibility of a deal for Yerry Mina.

The Colombia defender, who headed the goal to send their World Cup tie to extra-time and then penalties with England, was a standout and it is believed he could be available on a season-long loan.

Landlord’s Verdict

The South American would be a solid acquisition should the Toffees be able to bring him to the Premier League and one the locals would immediately be impressed with.

Everton have already lost Ramiro Funes Mori this summer and with Ashley Williams’ future looking uncertain, Mina would be a smart signing for Silva and Brands to make.

The centre-back would also be looking to get his career back on track after having struggled to make an impact with Barcelona so far since joining them in January.
