Manchester City fans here in the Tavern are in fine voice as they look to close in on the Premier League title, with summer plans now coming into question for the Citizens.
Pep Guardiola used the January transfer window to his advantage after implementing both youth and present plans with two signings, after defensive cover was a problem for City heading into the window. However, after welcoming the highly-rated Aymeric Laporte to the Etihad for £57 million, the Citizens were now thought to have acquired all the defensive additions they needed. But, according to reports from Calcio Mercato, Manchester City are continuing to monitor Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
The 22-year-old has exploded onto the seen in the Serie A after his summer move to the San Siro from Italian side Sampdoria, and has since been attracting the attention from some of Europe’s giants. Indeed, having shown the footballing world what he possesses so far this season, the Slovakian has the makings to overpower the ability of fellow countryman Martin Skrtel to become one of the country’s brightest ever defensive products.
City boss Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he continues to seek long-term replacements for the injury-prone Vincent Kompany, and although the Spaniard has already managed to secure the services of one top-quality central defender, it’s believed that the Inter Milan guardian is very much a summer target for the Manchester club.
The young Slovakian looks to be quite the prospect after already establishing himself as one of the best defenders in a difficult Serie A. Although, with City already welcoming Laporte to the Etihad in January, adding another defender to the side could be crucial in providing cover for the ageing Kompany. Indeed, as a future product of the game and having shown moments of class already, the 22-year-old looks to be quite the talent as he heads into the summer with a departure looking inevitable.
