Report: It could cost Newcastle more than double to be reunited with ace

Newcastle United have been rather quiet in the transfer window, much to the frustration of their fans in the Transfer Tavern, with many concerned that they may not bring the right bodies in.

Rafa Benitez is desperate to add a number of players to his squad in order to strengthen the Magpies and ensure they can fight bravely against relegation again.

He has already signed Martin Dubravka on a permanent deal from Sparta Prague this summer, however, there has not been much movement in regards to transfer activity since, despite Mike Ashley telling him he would be backed financially.

According to a report in The Times, Newcastle are keen on bringing Andros Townsend back to St. James’ Park after his performances for Crystal Palace have impressed the north-east outfit. The winger left the club in 2016 just six months after joining them for £13million, however, they have now been told they will need to pay £30m to bring him back.

Landlord’s Verdict

When the 26-year-old left Newcastle following their relegation to the Championship, a number of the locals in the bar will have been disappointed that he went so quickly after joining them.

With that in mind, as well as having to pay double for the player to be reunited at St. James’ Park and Ashley’s reluctance to spend big, a move could be difficult for Benitez to get to happen and as such, could face another difficult transfer window.
