Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for the club to be active this summer when it comes to bringing new players into the side.
Rafa Benitez is keen to add a number of players to his squad this summer as he looks to rebuild and make sure Newcastle continue their good work this season, however, he knows he will need to raise funds to be able to make signings.
However, according to a report in The Sun, the Magpies have rejected an offer from Anderlecht for Matz Sels. It is thought that the Belgium outfit are keen to keep hold of the goalkeeper following an impressive season-long loan with them, but the £1.75million offer has not been deemed satisfactory by Newcastle.
The 26-year-old has failed to make an impact at St. James’ Park since his arrival and it is thought the club want at least another £500,000 to make a deal permanent, however, Anderlecht are not prepared to budge on their initial offer.
Our landlord believes that Newcastle’s failure to sell Sels this summer could have some negative implications further down the line.
The Magpies know that they simply need to gather funds through selling players in order to finance the acquisition of new players, and if they are unable to offload Sels they will be left with four goalkeepers on a wage bill which the club are looking to significantly reduce.
