Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern will be desperate for their side to bring in a number of players this summer, as they may even be able to challenge for a European spot next season.
Rafa Benitez will be hoping that Mike Ashley provides him with the correct backing this summer, as Newcastle only managed to bring in three loan players back in January. However, it looks as if the club’s takeover situation is going from bad to worse, as according to the Mirror, Mike Ashley is reportedly demanding £400 million for Newcastle United, which has placed any potential takeover in doubt.
Mike Ashley is reportedly demanding £400 million for Newcastle United.
Ashley initially wanted £320m, then revised that figure upwards by £30m, but his latest demands have perplexed the group looking to seize control.
Indeed, it is now understood that Amanda Staveley’s move for the club is “on the point of collapse”, as she is now considering whether to devote any more time and resources to the project.
So, this could be bad news for Rafa Benitez’s future, as any conclusion would have safeguarded the Spaniard as he was central to Staveley’s plans.
Newcastle United will be angry that Mike Ashley’s stubbornness continues to cause problems, as it doesn’t look like a takeover will occur any time soon. And, with Amanda Staveley now possibly looking to move away from any potential takeover deal, perhaps Rafa Benitez will look for a move away.
