Newcastle United fans have enjoyed a successful year, with promotion to the Premier League the clear highlight of the Magpies past twelve months.
We love to welcome Newcastle fans to The Transfer Tavern, with their trips to the best bar in town always filled with good humour, and plenty of football chat. Always propping up the bar, our landlord caught up with the contingent from the north east to discuss transfer rumours, with reports today in The Mirror revealing that manager Rafa Benitez will listen to offers in the region of the £5 million mark for Henri Saivet.
The player has flopped since joining from Bordeaux in 2016, making just five league appearances for Benitez’s side, as well as spending last season on loan in France with St Etienne. The Senegalese international is surplus to requirements at the club, and Benitez is keen to offload the player as he attempts to add enough quality to his squad in the coming weeks to keep the club in the top-flight.
Saivet has been a total flop since moving from France, and it is amazing he wasn’t sold in the summer following a poor loan spell with St Etienne. Benitez afforded him another chance to shine in the Premier League, and the player has failed to repay his manager’s trust.
It is likely interest will materialise in the 27-year-old, but whether French sides will be willing to stump up £5 million for the winger who has scored just twice in two years remains to be seen. Saivet impressed at Bordeaux, but Benitez may have to lower his expectations if he is to offload the player in the coming weeks.
Newcastle fans, how much do you expect to receive for Saivet? Let us know!
