Report: Silva targeting Brazilian to replace Leighton Baines as move edges closer

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting Marco Silva to make a number of changes at the club this season as they look to rebuild from their poor season last year.

The Toffees spent much of the year at the wrong end of the table, following a summer of spending big on a number of players to try and help them achieve European football.

Silva was brought in to replace Allardyce and he will be looking at using his first transfer window at Goodison Park to make the changes he sees fit and according to a report, he may have just identified his first possible signing.

The Daily Mail are claiming Everton are in hot pursuit of Bayern Leverkusen’s Wendell as a possible replacement for Leighton Baines. The current left-back is considering a move to the MLS with Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union all interested, which has seen Silva target the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old is thought to be valued around £32million and still has three years left on his current deal, which could mean that the Premier League side will need to be close to their valuation to have any chance of signing him.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Toffees need to bring a new left-back into the side as it showed last season that Baines’ best playing days are behind him. The 33-year-old struggled to cope with the demands of playing top-flight football and Wendell would certainly add an attacking threat down the left-hand side, an area that was lacking last year.
