Report: Southampton agree fee to land third arrival of Hughes’ rebuilding project

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been getting excited about the upcoming Premier League campaign following their recent transfer activity.

Mark Hughes has already confirmed that Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi have joined the Saints this summer as he prepares to strengthen his side as much as possible.

The locals will be determined for the club not to be back near the foot of the table as they were last season, having just survived relegation by the skin of their teeth and the manager is continuing his charge for new recruits.

According to Sky Sports, the Saints have agreed to a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach for defender Jannik Vestergaard in the region of £18million to make him their third summer signing.

The Denmark international is yet to agree to personal terms, however, it is being claimed that they are not expected to be a problem for either the 25-year-old or the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Saints defence does require some rebuilding as the squad have definitely missed Virgil van Djik following his move to Liverpool last January.

The locals will be pleased to see Vestergaard arrive as he brings some international experience with him, as well as having played at a high level in the German Bundesliga already as well.
