Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the club to make a number of additions this summer as they look to improve on a disappointing season.
The Saints managed to keep their place in the Premier League on the final day of the campaign and Mark Hughes will be wanting to make sure his side steer clear of that situation next year.
Having just signed a three-year deal to remain at St Mary’s Stadium, the manager will be identifying a number of targets to improve his squad and, according to reports in Turkey, he is set to compete for a defender to bolster his squad.
Turkish-Football are claiming that Southampton are among a number of sides interested in Carpi FC defender Tobias Pachonik, who would be available on a free transfer this summer after his contract at the Serie B outfit expires.
According to the report, Pachonik has also attracted interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Fiorentina and Eintracht Frankfurt following a glowing season in which he earned a place in the Serie B team of the season.
A defender of Pachonik’s quality would be a welcome addition for the Saints, especially if available on a free transfer. The German Under-20 has been in impressive form for Carpi this year and it is no surprise clubs all over Europe are monitoring his situation.
As a versatile right-back, he can also play in the centre, as well as further up the pitch, which would help Hughes fill a number of positions at one time whilst leaving funds available for other recruits.
