Report: Southampton on verge of making first signing of the summer as Hughes plots rebuild

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited to see what Mark Hughes will be able to achieve with the side this summer and will be interested to see who they can bring in.

The Saints managed to survive relegation from the Premier League last season by the skin of their teeth and the locals will want to see the side strengthened as they will be expecting the club to be at the right end of the table.

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Hughes is expected to complete his first signing after having agreed to a £6million fee for Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong. The attacking midfielder has just 12-months left to run on his deal with the Scottish Champions and is expected to make the move south.

The Scotland international is looking to revive his career following an injury-hit campaign last year and believes Southampton can offer him the chance to do so.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased that the club are making movements in the transfer window and will be excited with the prospect of having Armstrong joining them.

The 26-year-old has proven he can be a winner during his career, having won four Scottish Premiership titles during his time with Celtic, whilst he also scored 17 times during Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge, which the locals will hope he can replicate for them at St. Mary’s Stadium.
