Everton supporters were in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side return to winning ways.
The Toffees were in a wretched run of four successive defeats in all competitions prior to Saturday’s home clash against AFC Bournemouth, and that looked set to become five when Josh King gave Eddie Howe’s men a 49th minute lead.
However, a brace from forgotten man Oumar Niasse secured a much-needed win for Ronald Koeman’s side to give the Goodison Park faithful something to cheer about, and it has indeed increased the confidence levels among our resident Evertonians ahead of their side’s Europa League encounter against Apollon Limassol on Thursday.
Despite commitments on both a domestic level and European level, that hasn’t stopped the focus being on who Everton may look to sign come the New Year, and recent reports from Sport Mediaset (via Football Italia) may be of interest to several of those Toffees supporters lining up at the bar.
And that’s because they report that the Merseyside outfit sent scouts to watch midfielder Jakub Jankto in action for Udinese in their 3-1 defeat to Roma in Serie A last weekend.
The 21-year-old moved to the Italian club back in 2014 but had to wait until August 2016 for his senior debut, but he has since then gone from strength to strength with 36 further appearances for the side, in which time he has scored seven goals and laid on six assists.
Two goals and two assists of which have come this term in Udinese’ poor start to the campaign, but Jankto is clearly doing the right things as several European heavyweights, including Arsenal, AC Milan, and Juventus, are also reportedly interested in his services.
And with Everton having sent scouts out over the weekend, the future of the Czech Republic international is far from certain.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been a testing start to the season for Everton, but victory over the weekend will give Ronald Koeman’s men a much-needed boost ahead of the remainder of the campaign.
Nonetheless, their shortcomings this term have highlighted the limitations of their squad, and it appears that the Toffees are already planning for January given they have reportedly scouted Udinese’s Jakub Jankto in recent days.
The 21-year-old impressed in Serie A last season and has made a solid start to this term as well, and would certainly bolster the ranks at Goodison Park, although the midfield department, following summer moves for Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, is not the area that needs serious attention.
And with Arsenal, AC Milan, and Juventus also thought to be circling, it’s going to be a tall order for Everton to convince Jankto of a move to the North West.
