Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been bemoaning their side’s recent poor run of form, which took another turn for the worst on Saturday when Thomas Christiansen’s men lost 1-0 at home to struggling Reading.
The Yorkshire giants went into their clash with Jaap Stam’s men at Elland Road having lost three of their preceding four Championship matches, although they did remain unbeaten at home having won three and drawn the other two of their five games. However, Mo Barrow’s late strike condemned the Whites to a third successive league defeat to remain sixth in the division but now six points adrift of leaders Wolves, who overcame Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux to go top of the pile.
However, there may be some encouraging news for our frustrated resident Leeds fans if a recent report from The Sun is anything to go by, which suggests that Christiansen’s men, alongside Saturday’s opponents Reading, are lining up a January move for Manchester United striker James Wilson.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at Old Trafford to earn his senior debut for the club back in 2014, starting the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Hull City, in which he helped himself to a brace.
And 19 further senior appearances have since followed for the former England youth international, but a serious knee injury last October while on loan at Derby County has ruled him out for a sustained period of time, and given United’s plethora of attacking talent, Wilson is unlikely to get the minutes he needs while at Old Trafford.
And as such a potential loan move could take place in the New Year, and reports suggest that Leeds will rival Reading for the 21-year-old’s signature in January, in a bid to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the second half of the Championship campaign.
And with Wilson himself not ruling out a January move, Leeds will surely fancy their chances of landing the forward come the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: James Wilson’s spell at Derby County promised much but ultimately delivered very little, with a serious knee-injury 12 months ago causing him to miss the remainder of the season.
And although he remained at Manchester United beyond the summer transfer deadline, a move away in January could be exactly what he needs to get back to form, and as such Leeds United are exploring the possibility of bringing him to Elland Road on loan in the New Year.
Wilson himself hasn’t ruled anything out with regards to a move away, and with Leeds going through something of a sticky patch, having netted just four goals in their last five matches, it’s a deal which could seriously enhance their promotion credentials.
But they will have to fend off Reading, who beat them 1-0 on Saturday, to land the 21-year-old.
