Newcastle United supporters were in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday, a result which propelled them up to seventh place in the Premier League table.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the basement side having won three of their opening eight league matches, but winless in their last three games. However, they soon recorded a fourth victory of the campaign and third at St James’ Park when Mikel Merino headed home Matt Ritchie’s corner four minutes from time, and although Roy Hodgson’s Eagles tried to get back in the game, the Magpies held on for a vital three points to go up to seventh in the division, and just two points adrift of the top four.
And victory for the North East giants delighted our resident Newcastle supporters over the weekend, and they are also likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Chronicle, which outlines some interesting information regarding the future of youngster Dan Barlaser.
The 20-year-old midfielder has come up through the youth ranks at St James’ Park to appear three times for the senior team, with his debut coming in their 3-1 victory over Birmingham City in an FA Cup third round replay last season.
Two further appearances have followed, another in the FA Cup and one in their Carabao Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest this term, but he has mainly been playing his trade for the Under-23 side, having appeared 73 times in all for that team, of which nine have come so far this season.
However, Barlaser is seeking a loan move away from Newcastle in January to aid his development, with the clear aim to break into the Magpies first team in the years to come.
He said: ‘Long term, I want to get on loan in January, show what I can do, and hopefully be back and ready to play for the first-team.
‘By the time this contract is up, hopefully I will be playing in the Premier League.’
These comments are sure to intrigue our resident Newcastle supporters, many of whom may find it refreshing to hear a young player wanting a move away to progress and further his career.
Landlord’s verdict: Newcastle supporters will be thrilled by their club’s start to the Premier League season, having achieved promotion from the Championship last time out.
Rafa Benitez’s side have won four of their nine league matches and sit sixth in the division, and young midfielder Dan Barlaser is hoping to break into the Magpies first team in the near future to be a part of that top-flight squad.
However, the 20-year-old is realistic and knows a loan spell away in January to a league club is integral in aiding his development and bringing him closer to those goals, and as such that is what he is seeking.
Impressive efforts for the club’s Under-23 side suggests that he is unlikely to be short of suitors in what is gearing up to be one of the most important years in his development.
