West Ham fans have been in high spirits this week in the Transfer Tavern after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
The East London outfit went into their meeting with Swansea City on Saturday off the back of a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham, and subsequently languished in the bottom three.
However, a 90th minute Diafra Sakho strike secured Slaven Bilic’s men a much-needed 1-0 win over the Swans, and lifted the Hammers out of the relegation mire and up to 15th in the table.
And there may be more good news to come for our resident West Ham fans if a recent report from Ghana Soccer Net is anything to go by, which outlines some intriguing information regarding the pursuit of young defender Rashid Alhassan.
The 17-year-old is an extremely highly-rated left-back in his homeland and is currently away on international duty with the Under-17 side, who begin their Under-17 World Cup campaign against Colombia on Friday.
And the Aduana Stars defender, who has helped his team to second place in the Ghanaian top-flight this term, just two points behind leaders WAFA, has reportedly been attracting interest from Bilic’s West Ham, as well as German side Hannover 96 and Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen where Alhassan is playing his trade come the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: The defensive department has been something of a problem area for West Ham over the last year or so, despite additions to the backline in both January and over the summer.
And it appears that manager Slaven Bilic is planning for the future as well by reportedly holding an interest in Ghana youngster Rashid Alhassan, a 17-year-old left-back who is making huge strides in his homeland, and appears destined for big things.
With Hannover 96 and Chicago Fire also interested, it won’t be easy for the Hammers to lure him to the Premier League, yet their standing as a top-flight side and overall infrastructure may be too much for the youngster to turn down.
