Report: West Ham make offer for Portugal ace amid uncertainty at current club

West Ham United have been linked with a number of names over the course of the transfer window this summer and the fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that they can continue to make the additions required.

Manuel Pellegrini has been active in the market for new recruits as he looks to try and bring European football to the London Stadium and has already made three defensive acquisitions so far.

It is believed he will be wanting to make a number of attacking additions as well and according to reports, it looks as though he has already made a bid for one of those he is targeting.

Sky Sports are claiming that the Hammers have made an offer of £20million for Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese club, who are in turmoil at the moment, could be prepared to sell, however, it is understood that they are after a fee around the £25m mark.

There is a chance that they could get the 23-year-old on a free as he has asked to terminate his contract, following an incident at their training ground with a large number of supporters, however, Sporting are looking to come to a compromise where the Irons can bring him on a cut-price.

Should West Ham manage to get him, it would surely be one of the biggest coups of the summer transfer window.

Landlord’s Verdict

The West Ham fans in the Tavern will be excited with the prospect of bringing Fernandes to the London Stadium, especially if they can get him on a cut-price deal.

The 23-year-old had been disappointing for Portugal during this summer’s World Cup before they were eliminated by Uruguay, however, his performances for Sporting Lisbon had been one that saw some of Europe’s biggest clubs attracted to him.
