Chelsea are in hot pursuit of a new goalkeeper, and the Blues in the Transfer Tavern fear that their side is running out of time…
With just a few days to go until the Premier League transfer window slams shut, it looks as though Antonio Conte has a very busy few days ahead of him.
Asmir Begovic is, reportedly, on the verge of a move away from Stamford Bridge on the condition that the Blues can find a replacement – with a number of players, including Craig Gordon of Celtic, reportedly lined up as potential replacements.
When the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern heard that Gordon was mentioned, their ears certainly pricked up. The Celtic shot-stopper has been impressive whilst playing for the Scottish giants, and whilst he is 34-years-old – he doesn’t look close to slowing down.
However, their excitement has firmly been shut down this afternoon – with a story from the Daily Record shutting down any chance of a move for Gordon, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirming that he is not for sale.
He continued: “Selling Craig’s not something we would even consider”.
That certainly sounds like a firm no – and it would appear as though it is back to the drawing board for the Blues.
Whilst Gordon was the favourite amongst the touted names amongst the Chelsea fans in the pub, Diego Lopez was also a popular name. Currently on loan at Espanyol, Lopez is at the stage of his career in which a move to the Blues might interest him – and so at present, that deal possibly looks the most likely.
Our landlord doesn’t have any idea how this story is going to pan out…
