Reports claim Everton made €75m offer for Premier League forward

The Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern still believe that they need a marquee striker signing in January to push on this season.

The Toffees made some optimistic moves in the summer but only added Sandro Ramirez from Malaga.

According to a recent report by Marca, Everton did make a €75m offer for Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

However, Costa only wanted a return to Atletico Madrid and was ready to reject all other advances from other clubs.

Chelsea froze the Spain international out for this season and snapped up Alvaro Morata as their new striker.

Antonio Conte made it clear to Diego Costa that he had no part to play in Chelsea’s squad and was free to find another club.

However, Atletico Madrid’s transfer embargo, coupled with his desire to only re-join his former club, made a move away impossible.

Atletico Madrid are able to sign players again in January and are expected to complete this deal after all the formalities are finalised.

Everton therefore must turn their attention to other targets after failing to negotiate the transfer of Costa to Goodison Park.

The Toffees were one of a number of clubs interested in Costa this summer but his heart was set on a return to Atletico.
