The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are well accustomed to rumours linking David De Gea with a move to Real Madrid, but recent reports from France suggest that Los Blancos will finally divert their interest elsewhere this summer.
David De Gea has been Man United’s most indispensable player for the best part of half a decade and, if reports in the mainstream media are to be believed, it’s something of a miracle that the Spanish goalkeeper still remains at Old Trafford. De Gea’s future has dominated the back-pages throughout every transfer window in recent memory, and yet he remains a United player.
Clearly, United’s stopper is not too displeased with the direction in which his career is heading and, considering he is only 27-years-old, it’s easy to understand why he’s in no hurry to move to the Spanish giants just yet. He is adored by the Red Devils faithful for his outrageous shot-stopping technique and his ability to single-handedly win matches for the club, so it’s no surprise they fear Real Madrid will eventually lure him away from Old Trafford
However, a diversion from the status quo could be upon United, as recent reports from the French media outlet RMC Sport claim Real Madrid are set to make a bid for Roma’s in-demand keeper Alisson this summer in a deal which could be worth €70 million. The Brazilian has heavily been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, but the latest report suggests the Champions League finalists will be in competition away from the field this month, as well as on it when they face each other in Kiev in nearly a fortnight’s time.
After chasing De Gea for so long, it’s likely that Madrid’s interest in Alisson stems from the either fact that United are unwilling to sell or that De Gea is not enticed by the idea of moving to European champions. Either way, it’s good news for United, as without De Gea their chances of bridging the gulf in class between themselves and Manchester City next season would be slim at best.
Of course, speculation should be taken with a pinch of salt, but after so many windows of fending off interest from the Spanish giants, it appears that United supporters may finally be able to rest in the knowledge that De Gea will remain at the club this summer.
