Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate for some good news regarding the Reds’ summer dealings after a disastrous start to proceedings.
Wind back just over a week ago and it seemed that Southampton star Virgil van Dijk was all but a Liverpool player, however, after allegations of an illegal approach for the Dutchman the Merseysiders released an embarrassing statement ending their interest in the Saints skipper.
The latest news surrounding the club’s business this summer is of a departure as opposed to any arrivals.
According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, the club have agreed a deal to see defender Andre Wisdom leave the club and join Championship side Derby County on a permanent basis, having spent the last four seasons away from Anfield on-loan.
The once highly rated youngster has failed to live up to his potential at Liverpool and, with no place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, will now be sold off for an initial £2m fee, which could rise to £4.5m with add-ons.
The consensus between staff and punters in the Tavern is that it’s a good deal for all involved. It’s quite clear that Wisdom, who won a League and Cup double with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria last season, had no future on Merseyside.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Should Wisdom have been given another chance to impress or do you agree with us in the Tavern that it was time to go? Let us know below…
