Representatives confident of a breakthrough as Liverpool saga takes another turn

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are fearing the worst regarding the future of midfielder Philippe Coutinho. A hero at Anfield, the Brazilian’s future has long been under the microscope, and with every passing window, fears of a departure emerge. This window is no different, with fears regarding a potential exit for the Brazilian reaching fever pitch.

Unfortunately for our resident Reds, then, a recent report from the Independent is going to do little to calm their nerves. According to the Independent, agents working with Coutinho believe that they are ‘close to a breakthrough’ as they look to secure an exit for the Brazilian midfielder.

Whilst news that representatives are attempting to work their magic behind the scenes is cause for concern enough, suggestions that they are making progressĀ are sure to be even more worrying for Liverpool.

Coutinho has, of course, been crucial for the Reds this season, providing fantastic quality through the middle of the park. Lining up alongside Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, the Brazilian has been a crucial part of a very impressive Liverpool attack, and so the prospect of losing him is a fearsome scenario for the Reds.

Of course, Liverpool are unlikely to buckle and sell him for a cut-price, given that his contract doesn’t expire until 2022, but the pressure is certainly increasing on Jurgen Klopp and co.

Coutinho appears keen to make the move – sooner rather than later – and whichever you spin that, it’s bad news for Liverpool.

Landlord’s Verdict

Coutinho would demand a huge fee, but Liverpool clearly aren’t looking to cash in. He’s more valuable to them as a player than as a financial settlement, and that’s unlikely to change.

That being said, progress is seemingly being made, and with these rumours not going away, it’s a nerve-wracking time to be a Liverpool fan.
