Arsenal and Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed to hear via talkSPORT that their transfer target Luiz Adriano has claimed he would’ve loved to join Roma in January.
The Shakhtar Donetsk striker has reportedly wanted out of the Ukrainian club for some time now but a move never materialised in January.
The Brazilian international has scored nine goals in just five Champions League games this season which caught the attention of several European clubs.
Despite the high interest, Roma were believed to be leading the chase but the Giallorossi ended up bringing Seydou Doumbia and Victor Ibarbo the Stadio Olimpico from CSKA Moscow and Cagliari respectively.
“There was no agreement between the clubs,” Adriano is reported as saying by Sky Italia.
“What is certain right now is that I’ll continue to play here, for Shakhtar, I want to win titles and continue to score lots of goals in this shirt.
“I want to give my all, like I always have. Roma are a great team, with a great history who are still battling for the title. It would definitely have been a great opportunity for me, for my career.
“They have a great history in Europe and Serie A, I would have loved to play for Roma.”
Although it may seem disheartening that he wanted a move to Italy, one plus is that the deal did not go through handing hope to the Premier League heavyweights who could well revisit their interest in the summer.
