Respite for Everton fans as encouraging reports emerge

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern were left bemoaning another poor performance from their side over the weekend, as they lost 1-0 to Burnley on Sunday.

Ronald Koeman’s men had three days earlier only managed a 2-2 draw at home to Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol in the Europa League to remain winless in the group stages, and the Goodison Park faithful were again left disappointed on Sunday.

Jeff Hendrick’s first half goal was enough to secure the Clarets a deserved victory, although there may be some respite for our resident Toffees supporters if a recent report from The Daily Mail is anything to go by.

And that’s because they report that the Merseyside club are ready to offer starlet Beni Baningime a new deal to fend off reported interest from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old joined the Everton Academy at the age of nine and has since progressed up through the ranks to link up with the Under-23 side, for whom he has played 25 times in all, netting once in their 3-0 win over Chelsea back in August of this year.

And his excellent displays in the heart of their midfield has reportedly attracted the interest of Jose Mourinho’s United and, with Baningime’s contract set to expire next summer, Everton are seeking to tie him down to a new long-term deal at Goodison Park.

Baningime played a key role in helping the Toffees Under-23 team win the Premier League 2 title last term, and although they are five points adrift of bitter rivals Liverpool so far this time round, you sense that keeping the 19-year-old starlet will be vital in their quest for successive crowns.

Landlord’s verdict: Everton manager Ronald Koeman is certainly feeling the pressure after his side’s poor start to the season, but he does deserve much credit for giving youth a chance during his 14-month stint at Goodison Park.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, and Mason Holgate have all broken through and been key features in the first team under the Dutchman, and that makes it all the more important that they keep starlet Beni Bamingime amid reported interest from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old has been hugely impressive for the Under-23 side but his contract is up next summer, so it’s imperative that the Toffees get a deal done for the midfielder, as he could turn out to be a key player for the Merseyside outfit in the future.
