Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been bemoaning their side’s woeful recent run of form, which took another turn for the worse on Sunday against Manchester United.
Ronald Koeman’s men went into their encounter with the Premier League table-toppers off the back of three consecutive defeats in all competitions, which included a 3-0 loss away at Atalanta in their first Europa League group stage clash on Thursday.
And things didn’t get any better for our resident Toffees over the weekend either as their side were comfortably beaten 4-0 by Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils at Old Trafford, with goals from Antonio Valencia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku, and Anthony Martial sealing the win for United.
However, there may be some respite for Everton fans if a recent report from The Sun is anything to go by, as the club are reportedly interested in Liverpool FC (not that Liverpool FC!) youngster Federico Martinez.
The 21-year-old plays his trade in the Uruguayan Primera Division with the Montevideo-based outfit having come up through the ranks at the club, making his senior debut for them back in December 2015.
And he has since then gone from strength to strength with 57 further appearances for the top tier side, 26 of which has come this year in helping Liverpool to 12th place in the aggregate table, having won just six of their 27 league games.
Nonetheless, the midfielder must be doing something right as several European clubs, notably Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Everton, are reportedly keeping tabs on his progress ahead of a possible move in the near future.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been a troublesome few months at Everton, with Ronald Koeman’s men languishing in the relegation zone after three successive Premier League defeats, in which time they have conceded nine goals.
Yet there does appear to be some encouraging news for Toffees supporters in that the club are looking to add to their squad, with Liverpool FC’s Federico Martinez a reported target.
The 21-year-old has broken into the first team at the Uruguayan club in recent times and continues to impress, and with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid also thought to be interested, Koeman and the Everton hierarchy may need to act fast to bring the youngster to Merseyside if they remain impressed with his efforts in South America.
