Return of on-loan Chelsea wonderkid this summer could spell the end for Bakayoko – agreed?

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready for Antonio Conte to give up on Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Frenchman has done little to suggest that he’s ready to play for a team of Chelsea’s calibre, and given his lack of action in recent weeks, it appears as though Antonio Conte’s perspective is shifting in that direction too.

Indeed, if Chelsea bring in another player of his ilk this summer, the Frenchman could see his already-reducing role diminish even further. The Blues, then, could look to make a major transfer splash to bring in that sort of player, but our landlord thinks that on-loan wonderkid Ruben Loftus-Cheek could fit the mould perfectly.

Having spent all of his developmental period at Chelsea, Loftus-Cheek moved to Crystal Palace on loan over the summer, and he has really proven to Chelsea what they are missing out on. Prior to an injury, he had emerged as the focal point of the Eagles’ midfield, providing an incredible impact going forward, whilst also aiding the task defensively, too.

If you watch him play in comparison Bakayoko, it becomes clear that their play styles are eerily reminiscent. Both are willing runners that are happy to put a tackle in, whilst they also both like to drive forward and move past players. Bakayoko has more experience, of course, but Loftus-Cheek has proven that he’s good enough to control the midfield in the English top flight, and so that shouldn’t be a problem.

What’s more, at just 22-years-old, it’s clear that the English midfielder is still a developing player, and whilst the same can be said of Bakayoko, the Frenchman hasn’t really shown much to indicate that his ceiling is nearly as high as Loftus-Cheek’s. Undoubtedly still a wonderkid, having had his development delayed by a lack of action at Chelsea, the sky really is the limit for him.

You’ve also got the homegrown status that Loftus-Cheek possesses, which is key in England, not to mention the fact that he has been able to prove himself this season.

Indeed, if Bakayoko fails to impress between now and the end of the season, and Loftus-Cheek continues on his fine path, the pair could swap places this summer, with Bakayoko potentially on the chopping board.
