The Daily Star have jumped on the bandwagon and decided to link Arsenal with a move for a striker. Dortmund’s Marco Reus is said to be a transfer target for Wenger, as made evident (in The Star’s eyes) by the following piece of commentary: “are you on the case?” “yes”.
Naturally, The Daily Star believed this to be an admission of interest in signing the German star, who impressed against Greece in the Euro 2012 quarter final. One salient piece of information this news story has overlooked, however, is that Reus has only just signed for Dortmund – actually, he hasn’t even done that yet. His transfer date is set as July 1st.
Rumours have flown around in the last few weeks regarding the ominous position Wenger is in, with rumours mounting that they are set for a summer clear-out, not to mention RVP’s imminent departure. Even with Giroud and Podolski in, Arsenal are believed to be searching for another player to add to their front three.
This rumour, however, doesn’t look very realistic. Reus agreed a transfer to Dortmund back in January – his 37 goals in three years at Monchengladbach earning him a £14 million move to the German giants.
Arsenal are set for a busy summer, but this rumour probably won’t be mentioned again. Wenger’s commentary in the Germany game, in which he admitted being on the case, seems to be a light-hearted comment.
If Wenger really was scouting the player, then he would be aware that the transfer is pretty impossible as things stand. Admiring Reus wasn’t hard to do in the Greece game, and I’m sure he wasn’t the only one that enjoyed his performance.
