It’s been a tough start to his Chelsea career for Emerson Palmieri. Since moving from Roma, he’s only made a handful of appearances, with Marcos Alonso typically preferred in his place by Antonio Conte.
In truth, Chelsea fans just haven’t seen enough of him to know what he can do, and so it was interesting when Chelsea were linked with a move for Jordi Alba last week.
It certainly came as a shock to our resident Blues, but it appears as though some fans wouldn’t be against the idea of him coming. It seems likely that, given his lack of game time, Emerson Palmieri would be a likely casualty if Alba were to arrive, and according to a recent poll, 37% of Chelsea fans think that the Blues should replace Palmieri with the Spaniard.
Of course, much of that is likely down to his lack of action, but Alba certainly is a player that would improve the Blues.
He’s one of Europe’s best left-backs, and offers incredible pace, technique and crossing down the wings. Granted, he’s 29-years-old, but his increased age has done nothing to harm his quality.
Of course, a majority of fans are against the idea of a deal – but it’s still interesting to see that some would like the deal to go through – however unlikely it may be. Perhaps some fans are beginning to value experience and an immediate impact over potential.
