Revealed: £40m striker rejected Chelsea in January

HiguainChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have expressed their concern to our bar staff after more disappointing news filtered through regarding their failed plans in January.

The Daily Mail has revealed that Gonzalo Higuain rejected a £40m transfer from Napoli to Chelsea in January, as the Argentine forward was not offered first-team assurances by the Blues.

With Chelsea looking for improvements to bolster their struggling forward line in January, it’s stated Guus Hiddink’s side sounded-out a number of strikers throughout January but were rebuffed by them all.

Higuain would have been a major addition to Chelsea’s line and would have been a far better option than the striker Hiddink’s side did manage to secure, with Alexandre Pato handed a second-chance in Europe as he moved to Stamford Bridge on a loan deal from Corinthians.

However, the former Brazilian international is yet to feature for Chelsea and there have been concerns regarding his fitness, leaving just Diego Costa and the highly-coveted Loic Remy as candidates to lead Chelsea’s attack.

Our landlord believes Hiddink was right not assuring Higuain of his first-team role but believes the Blues should have tried harder to persuade the Argentine international to move anyway.

Chelsea fans, would Higuain have been the ideal january signing? Let us know in the comments below!
