The likely absence of N’Golo Kante against Crystal Palace on Saturday is concerning the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
Kante has played very frequently for the Blues this season, particularly in the Premier League, and so Antonio Conte certainly has a big decision on his hands as he looks to line up a replacement.
Cesc Fabregas has found a new lease on life this term, having emerged as a first-team regular under Conte, and so it seems likely that he will play, but our landlord isn’t sure who should partner him.
The Blues do have options, and with Danny Drinkwater said to be returning to fitness, that is certainly an option for him to consider – at least according to Chelsea supporters, it seems.
Our landlord recently set up a poll asking a very simple question: Who should replace N’Golo this weekend. Surprisingly, the most likely candidate – Tiemoue Bakayoko – finished bottom of the list, picking up just 23% of the vote.
Next up was David Luiz, with 30% of the vote. The Brazilian hasn’t played in the league in recent weeks, and with Christensen doing so well in defence, it’s certainly an option to move the 30-year-old into midfield.
However, the player that Chelsea fans want to see is Danny Drinkwater, who amassed 47% of the votes. He hasn’t played yet for Chelsea, but he’s more defensive than Bakayoko, and he is very experienced in the Premier League. In addition, a game against Crystal Palace may provide a perfect setting for him to make his debut – with the Eagles not expected to trouble the Blues. That said, if he isn’t fully fit, Conte won’t risk him, and so it remains to be seen who he will select.
The decision is, of course, down to Conte, but the Chelsea fans have had their say.
